With their help, students have been able to visit the residents at their home and the residents have also been able to come to visit the students at school. The students have learned and grown through their interactions with some of these amazing individuals who shared their life experiences with the students.
In one of their first visits, the seniors were invited to watch the Halloween Parade at Lord Baden-Powell. According to 6th Grader Diego, the students had a blast walking around in their costumes. Student Council created a giant poster that was signed by all the students and presented to the seniors who proudly hung it in their home. On Veterans Day the students visited Brookdale and spoke with all the residents. 6th grader Sadeem spoke with a WWII veteran. Since she was deaf, her daughter interpreted for them and Sadeem learned that she worked in an airplane factory and her husband was also in the war and that’s how they met. Emma learned that her new friend was a seamstress and also talked about her favorite movie, “Gone with the Wind”
These interactions between the students and the Brookdale residents have made lifelong memories and is another example of how the students in Magnolia School District perform Infinite Acts of Kindness every day. Thank you to the residents of Brookdale for our partnership, our students for showing the kindness and leadership known to Baden-Powell, and to our teachers, Katrina and Stacy for taking the initiative to form and support this great effort. Go Roadrunners!
